Ascent Trip ReportI had eyeballed this fascinating formation the year before and our annual backpacking trip, and knew then that we would return the following year to climb the area and stand on top of the bald rock. After establsihing a base camp and climbing all the nearby formations (joh's Rock and Cedar Rock Mountain) we ended with a day hike of Looking Glass. An easy day hike up to an impressive batholith formation with great views for a NC mountain. Lots of rock climbers use this formation to climb. It is interesting to stand on the edge of the rock. The formation starts out a little bit flat and continuously rounds steeper and steeper and at one point you wonder how much further you can stand before slipping over the side.
One of the most interesting places to hike/climb in the area.
