Ascent Trip ReportBackpacked for 2 nights and approached the Hagues Peak area. Camped at Lawn Lake approximately 11,000 ft, to acclimate for all the continental divide backpacking and day hiked the peak the next morning. Because of altitude sickness (all from FL) only Dave, Chris and I summitted. The other three turned back at a saddle around 12,500. Amazing views of alpine lakes and cirques below.
Climbed the SW steepest part of the mountain face and had a very steep 700 foot talus pile to contend with getting up and down. Last thousand feet was off trail class 2 and 3 scrambling. At teh summit there was a log for you to sign. Log indicated that is was not a very well traveled peak. We saw nobody out there other than at Lawn Lake a ranger came by.
Gain began at Gem Lake TH 7800 and climbed to 2 camp sites with pack prior to day hike up the summit.
Climbed down to Lawn Lake at 10,000 climbed to PT 11,791 (Gain = 1,791)declined to Chipmunk Lake 10,700 then down Ypsilon Trail out to TH at EL BM 8,520.
