Ascent Trip ReportAs far as I can determine, Poteau Mountain is the 3rd highest named highpoint in Arkansas. It is an easy summit to bag, if you don't mind driving up a long, gravel access road which is not in the best of condition in places, but my son, Marshall, and I made it up in my 1991 Ford Festiva with no problems. This road was not gated nor posted, so it was a stress free ascent. The summit does not have much of a view and all the benchmarks are missing. We found two monument bases with the benchmarks removed. If you like communication towers, however, this is the place for you. There are no less than 7 tall towers on the summit. I guess the best attraction for this summit, other than being the third highest named highpoint in Arkansas, is the fact that you get to claim two county highpoints at once, Scott and Sebastian.
