Ascent Trip Report

We arrived at the trailhead at about 9am and found only about a half dozen vehicles there ahead of us. This is a first for a Mount Si trip in my experience! Trail was bare and wet with light rain and snowmelt falling for the first mile or so. The second mile had increasing slushy snow up to the flat area, and from that point on up to the top it was completely (and increasingly) snow-covered.

A few hikers had been up ahead of us, which was nice because they had compacted the trail enough that it was easy to follow and we weren't postholing the rest of the way up. The snowy scenery was amazing-- I don't think the Mount Si trail has ever looked quite so beautiful or been so peaceful. Snow was about three feet deep at the summit, and the camp robbers were waiting for us to break out our snacks when we arrived. After a quick (and guarded, 'cause those birds are vicious!) lunch, it was time to head back.

We encountered several other parties making their way up the mountain on our way back down, but it was still a very serene day on this often bustling highway of a trail.
