Ascent Trip ReportFirst Summit of the year with Ashleigh. Perfect weather, almost no wind -10 tops, much warmer in the afternoon. We had some trouble finding the actual trail, since we followed the wrong steps for a bit. But once we saw the wide road, we knew it was the correct trail. This little mountain gets busy, and winter is no exception. We made our way to the prairie view point, but everyone else seemed to be heading down. Ash and I made a trail to the top of Yates Mountain (Barrier Lake Lookout), which was only a little further up. We enjoyed a nice lunch at the top by the hut and then took the Jewel Pass trail back, a detour. The view from up top was nice and we got to see Twin Towers, Grant McEwan and Heart Mountain across as well as Mt. Baldy to the south. It was a much nicer trail through the beautiful winter forest, and we stopped by a small frozen waterfall. Not bad for our first summit of 2016, covered quite a bit of distance. |
