Ascent Trip Report

This was my first time going up San Gorgonio via Vivian Creek, and as a result, I totally missed the trail head. We were following footprints in the snow and ended up going almost all the way to the Galena head wall before realizing we had completely missed our turn off (the extra distance and elevation have been subtracted from the totals). The second morning we left Halfway Camp early and hit the summit of San Gorgonio, then Jepson, then Charlton, and we tagged Little Charlton on the way back. We came across the bivvy site of the veteran and his wife who had to be rescued by helicopter the week before on our way up, and ended up completing our trip out in a bit of a blizzard. Overall, a very fun trip. The summit ridge has been extremely windy both times that I have been up there. Having now been to the summit from both sides of the mountain, I think the north side is a bit more enjoyable if only because it has better views. The Vivian Creek approach is definitely shorter and less time consuming.
