Ascent Trip ReportWe did Peekamoose and Table mountains from Peekamoose Road trailhead. It was sunny and about 25 degrees at the trailhead. I knew the forecast called for teens and subzero wind chill at the summit, so we planned for that. Nice walk up, a little ice as we got above 3,000 ft. Didn't put on microspikes at the way up, but we needed them on the way down. Peekamoose goes from a wooded road to a more backcountry trail to rock scrambles and a more difficult-to-spot trail toward the summit, but it's well blazed (on the way up at least). Our biggest issue was Peekamoose's false summit with the views. I think this is the area people talk about having been recently cut. But we definitely thought we were further along than we were. The only other couple on the mountain clued us in. By the time we got through the saddle and to the summit of Table, it was snowing pretty hard. Put on spikes for the way down after falling a few times, but ended up losing a spike. Bruises notwithstanding, it was a nice hike. We've had an unusually warm winter so far (Christmas Eve, which is tomorrow, is predicted to be in the 70s), so it was neat to be walking through the woods and seeing the snow drift down and cover everything.
I wouldn't have been able to find Table's summit if it wasn't for the rock cairn that marks it.
