Ascent Trip Report

This is a difficult mountain to summit by WV standards. I certainly wouldn't recommend doing it without a gps and doing your homework. I drove on Bonner Mountain Rd and parked at the "Flat Rock Tail" trailhead. The trail isn't perfectly marked but most major turns have a Carin next to them to keep you on the trail. It's pretty gradual and only gets steep in a few spots. Before the trail meets up with "Roaring plains trail" I went on an unmarked trail to the north of the summit. At about 4,600' I decided to make the bushwack to the summit. I did have 4G service and the summit on Google Maps is exactly where the benchmark is located! To my surprise the GPS took me right to the benchmark. It was about ~11mi round trip. ~2,300' of climb. A good time and a good challenge.
