Ascent Trip ReportThe Goosenest TH is signed as being 14 miles from the turnoff onto FSR 45N22 from CA 97 19.8 miles north of Weed. After 9+ miles a sign points to a good dirt road to the south to the TH 5 miles up the hill.
Here there is a Goosenest sign and a FS registration stand. The pleasant, shaded trail leads in less than 1.5 miles to the south side of the open Goosenest crater. From here it is less than 1/2 mile to the summit cairn at the east rim of the crater. Marvelous views with great visibility on this cloudless day. Mt. Shasta is the dominant feature in the panorama Relatively few people sign in to take sdvantage of this little publicized hike, which I highly recommend.
