Ascent Trip ReportAfter an overnight at Burney I drove down the scenic Hat Creek Valley on CA 89 to the CA 44 junction, then east on CA 44 to the Butte Lake Rd (FSR 32N21). About 1/4 from the Butte Lake Campground on the Cinder Cone Tr, the pleasant Prospect Peak Tr takes off and meanders up gentle, forested slopes toward Prospect Peak. About 1/4 mile from the top it meets a shallow crater bowl and continues around the western side of the rim to the summit and site of a former L.O.. I was surprised there weren't more names in Pete Yamagata's register, which he and Rex Smith placed in 1992. Good views of Lassen Peak and surroundings in Lassen Volcanic N.P. on this sunny but hazy day. |
