Ascent Trip ReportMy navigational aid started me up the wrong road for Lockhart Bluff. It turned out instead to be someone's driveway with a hairpin turn. It appeared that at one time this driveway used to continue higher up the bluff, but now this route is overgrown. Just a tenth of a mile south is the actual access road to the summit which is located on the east side of Lockhart Bluff. It was gated, but there were no posted signs and the metal gate was wide open, so I proceeded up the mile long gravel road. This road was steep in places, but my tiny 1991 Ford Festiva had no trouble making it to the top where there were two areas of communication towers, but no lookout tower, which was a disappointment since there was no vista from ground level due to the trees and the fact the highest point sits too far from the lip of the bluff's plateau. The best view is actually found near the beginning of the descent on the road from the summit.
