Ascent Trip ReportThe day's third and final peak was South Yolla Bolly Mountain (aka Mt. Linn). It was a long 50 miles of dirt road driving, with an occasional unsigned junction, from Anthony Peak to Ides Cove and the TH for South Yolla Bolly. The undulating route headed over M4, M2 , the Forks Ridge Rd (24N01),across Thomes Creek, then up to the major junction at Cold Springs Station. From here it was another 11 miles on M22 and 25N19 to Ides Cove. Near the parking area there are two trails which are part of a loop circling the mountain which doesn't go to the summit. Go up between the trails for an open, rather obvious cross-country hike, staying first on the north side of the broad ridge, then on the south side as you approach the summit. It was a long drive to South Yolla Bolly, but worth it. We had been on top of Black Butte at 10:15A, Anthony Peak at 11:40A, and South Yolla Bolly at 3:55P. We headed back past Cold Spring Station, where we drove via M2 down to Paskenta, then out to Corning and I-5. |
