Ascent Trip ReportOn our trip to do the Presendential traverse, we parked at Crawford notch and took the shuttle to the valley way trailhead. Make sure to make a reservation as the shuttle was full. It took about 55 minutes for the trip. we started at 230pm at the valley way trail and got to the Madison Hut at 515. We then did Madison from the hut which took 40 minutes roudtrip. It's a great hike up rocks to the peak. We spent the night at the hut and highly recommend it. The food and company were great. The bunks were more comfortable than we expected and come with space for backpacks, boots, etc. and there is a light right above each bed. We woke early and started the long day at 600 and arrived on Adams at 7. Then mt. Jeffersonat 920 and mt. Washington at 1205. After an hour taking pictures and eating, we headed to mt. Monroe which took an hour, then Eisenhower in 1.5 hours then mt pierce in another hour. The 3+ mile hike to our car at Crawford was slow and painful as we ended our 11 hour and 19 mile day at about 545pm. The entire hike wasn't too challenging but 95% is on rocks, so make sure to have extra socks and extra comfortable boots and we could hardly walk at the end. This goes down as one of my favorite hikes I've done. If in great shape, it can be completed in 11-12 hours as there are not many difficult ups and downs, just the pain of stepping on rocks all day. Enjoy!! |
