Ascent Trip Report

We stayed at the large goat pass hut and met several Te Aetaroa through hikers, but they are missing out on the peaks! Kidding. Good for them. Ascended to the picturesque Lakve Mavis and then through the boulderfield to the small saddle closest to the peak and to the east of a spire that would be difficult to descend if you were to try to take the whole west ridge. Scramble to the summit with a couple Class 3+ sections, once on top you still have to traverse south to attain the true summit, but this was the funnest part. The Whole Grain Traverse I will dub it. It can be Class 4 if you stay direct, but with careful routefinding a class 3+ way can be found. Save sunshine for a chilly dip in Lake Mavis to help you warm back up!
