Ascent Trip Report

From the Lichen Bark TH at Lake Del Valle I took the Ohlone Wilderness Regional Trail, which ascends to Rocky Ridge, descends to Williams Gulch, then climbs up past Schlieper Rock to Johnny's Pond, Shafer Flat, and the unsigned Rose Flat road. About 0.5 mile beyond this junction and NE of Rose Flat is "Discovery Peak," aka Volpe Ridge-Rose Flat, the Alameda CoHP. The summit knoll, marked by an antenna, is readily visible. There is a small corral and a fence to cross en route to the HP. Many wildflowers today, including red larkspur, Mission bells, baby blue-eyes, and an abundance of shooting stars. Leaving "Discovery Peak," I returned to the Ohlone Wilderness Tr, lunched on a knoll overlooking Indian Creek and a view toward Rose Peak, then returned to the Lichen Bark TH.
