Ascent Trip Report

As per Suttle's "California County Summits," turn right at Red Cap Rd at the north end of the Klamath River bridge on CA 96 at Orleans; follow it 18.5 miles to the TH. This is a good road, paved for the first 15 miles, then gravel. The trail heads SE, passing Baylor Camp at 1.3 miles, connecting with the Salmon Summit National Scenic Trail, passing a collection of cairn spires at Indian Rocks and finally breaking out into the open with the summit close at hand. The top is crowned with a substantial 7' rock cairn. The usually fantastic view from here, the Humboldt County HP, was unfortunately diminished by smoke from several distant fires.
