Ascent Trip ReportA mere drive-up, yes, but what a pay off! The lookout tower was open (staffed by a super friendly volunteer) and the views from there were...with no exaggeration...the best views I've ever had from any peak in SoCal. It was a clear afternoon and we could see: San Jacinto, the San Bernardino and Yucaipa ridges to the southeast; a bunch of San Diego peaks and Santiago/Modjeska in Orange County to the south; Catalina, the ocean and even the downtown LA skyscrapers to the west; the Baldy ridge right next door to the west; and even the faint outlines of the southern Sierra peaks to the far north. Absolutely astounding! Thank you, Mihai, for suggesting this add-on to our day of hiking!
