Ascent Trip Report

This was a straightforward hike and climb. Needless to say this trail up Peekamoose is higher, and in places steeper than the ascent over from Table Mt. I hiked with my younger son: Mike, and the hike was mainly for him although I had some interest in summiting this mountain.

The mileage in the 2nd Edition of the ADK Guidebook is in error. Too short by about 0.4 miles.

This day was a fairly hot summers, day and we definitely needed the water we took along

The trail head is easily found along the winding narrow Peekamoose road. The trail itself was mostly in the woods without much views. It is easily followed, and alternated between fairly moderate and somewhat steep terrain. Thus it is not very appealing. Likewise the summit was basically surrounded by wooded walls that restricted views, even when you got on top of the erratic boulder. Not exciting at all!

My preference and recommendation would be to "do" this mountain as part of a Table/Peekamoose trip instead - from the Denning area. I solo summited Table from there before this, and the hike overr from Table seems trivial to get to Peekamoose.
