Ascent Trip Report

started from mirror lake trailhead and headed up maintained trail to what is supposedly the summit (which had nice views), however it was really clear that the summit was further east along the ridge. i spotted that if i worked my way along the ridge i'd eventually arrive at the ski-hill and could loop down and back via the highway. it made for a pleasant trip, with great views of mt. hood the whole time. i felt like a fish out of water on the ski hill though: i wasn't a mountain biker, i wasn't part of a wedding party, and i wasn't taking the sled ride. it seems like they'd prefer hikers just walk down the boring service road, but there are obvious places you can cut through the forest (places where there aren't mountain bike trails).
