Ascent Trip Report

MANN HILL ... an open easy bushwack, .9M, 217' ascent, 25 minutes RT.
In the village of Pownal Center on Hwy #7 (approx 5 miles north of the VT/MA Line) we picked up Barber Pond Road and drove east a very short distance to the first right on Hidden Valley Road, then .4 miles south to the crest of the road and parked.
I walked/dropped to a sag before bushwacking/climbing a moderately-steep-slope southwest 200 yards to the ridge, then south along the ridge 500 yards to the obvious wooded high ground (42.78277,-73.22126), saw one posted sign. Nice open easy woods with no views. Rated for Peakbaggers only.
I backtracked to the TH and continued driving south.

MASON HILL ... an easy open wack, 300 yards, 30' ascent, 15 minutes RT.
We continued south on Hidden Valley Road to a T-Junction with Ladd Brook Road and turned left, .8 miles east made a sharp right turn on Mason Hill Road which we drove south for .55 miles to its crest and parked (42.76838,-73.20394).
I bushwacked west in the open woods 150 yards to the wooded HP (42.76881,-73.20618). 50 yards before is a posted/red-blazed N-S tree line on a ridge of sorts. Nothing of interest here, for Peakbaggers only.
Once back to the TH we found our way back to Hwy #7 and continued north to Carpenter Hill Road.

CARPENTER HILL ... a short northbound wack, 800 yards, 40' ascent, 20 mintes RT.
From the junction of Hwy #7/Carpenter Hill Road (about 2.3 miles south of Bennington) we drove south on Carpenter Hill Road for 2 miles to a left turn onto Tower Road (dirt), .3 miles east parked at its crest as it bends right.
An easy bushwack northbound of 300 yards took me to the wooded summit (42.83115,-73.21564) on a small N-S rocky ridge. Another rocky bump 100 yards further north is not a contender according to my eye-level.
Nothing of interest here and therefore rated for Peakbaggers only, however the drive up alone, through beautiful apple orchards is well worth the trip, especially this time of the year .... the farmer's workers harvesting the fruit, took a bunch of photos.

"I HAD GAINED THE SUMMIT OF A COMMANDING RIDGE,
AND, LOOKING AROUND WITH ASTONISHING DELIGHT,
BEHELD THE AMPLE PLAINS, THE BEAUTEOUS TRACTS BELOW." .......... daniel boone
