Ascent Trip Report

Warm day with bug swarms. Started hike around 10:05 am from day-use parking area in Paso Picacho Campground, which was virtually empty. Very unclear how to get to the Old Fire Lookout Road - no signs. I walked up through campground heading towards the SW corner and saw the old fire lookout road behind the "cedar" cabin. A couple of lady campers gave me a map (thank you), as the entrance station was closed I couldn't pick up a brochure/map. Very non-descript hike along steep but direct Old Fire Lookout Road. Some evergreen trees survived 2003 fire near summit - nice relief and shady too. Reached summit at about 11:12 hr; and back to the car park at 12:23 pm. Not a summit I would hike again but views looking east were spectacular. Met one hiker on the way up; 4 on the way down.
