Ascent Trip ReportSo nice, we hiked it twice!!
We went much fast on our second time up Mount Arab. Now it was getting later in the day and we were trying to make it to Hoss's in Long Lake. So we hiked up pretty quickly.
We ran into the summit museum guy with his two New Foundlands about a quarter of the way up, he said, yeah, he saw Dan's pole over near the fire tower and he left it there. Way to go, guy. Normally, when you find something that someone lost on a hike, you bring it down to the sign in register. Nope, that this guy.
We ran into several other people that were like, hey, didn't we just see you hiking DOWN the mountain? Why are you going back up? We told them about Dan's pole and carried on.
At the half way point, a large erratic, Dan exclaimed, "there it is!" A guy coming down the mountain was using his hiking stick, he quickly gave it back to Dan.
So then we debated on whether or not to continue all the way to the top. I really wanted to, but didn't want to force Dan to since his ankle still wasn't right. I said no, let's go to the car, but he could tell what I really wanted. So we pushed on and before we knew it we were back at the fire tower. We went right up it to check out the paintings on the roof inside the tower. The observer cabin guy had told us about it once we had come down the first time and I felt bad that I didn't see it. They were done really well and it was nice to be able to correctly identify mountains in view. It was really worth it because it was such a clear day and we could see every mountain that was labeled on the paintings.
Again, I'll list this as a single ascent trip because technically we had gotten in the car and drove a hundred yards or so before turning around, parking the car again, and heading up the mountain. Also, Sammy was more than happy to go right back up the mountain! Good dog!
