Ascent Trip Report

Parking in Pinkham notch visitors center we made a quick stop at the facility. We ogled at the new Miss NH as she prepared for her ascent of mt.Wash with her man and a photographer. Then got started with the hike. we Hiked up Tuckerman ravine trail to the Huntington ravine trail, up to the fan and over to Pinnacle buttress. There were already two parties at the base and were worried we would be delayed. We racked up and scrambled the 4th/5th class left leaning crack gully to the base and decided to get started up the normal route. There were parties on both the normal and the old route but the party on the normal route was a bit ahead. I climbed this pitch as well as the next pitch in one long pitch. Brought up Red, moved the belay and she climbed the next two pitches. I took over for the next intending to climb the final two but had to down climb most of the last pitch having missed the fairytale. The down climb was mostly trivial though a trip would have been consequential. I set a belay and let Red complete the fairytale. I Climbed the final pitch after to the summit ridge where I climbed as far as rope drag would allow. We changed into boots and scrambled up the talus field another few hundred feet to the Alpine Garden Trail. We climbed the Pinnacle including the Fairy Tale traverse which was the best pitch of the route. Topping out we scrambled up to the Alpine Garden trail, hiked over to the Lion's head trail, down over Lion's head to the Hermit lake shelters and down the Tuckerman ravine trail back to the car at Pinkham.
