Ascent Trip ReportIn all of my books and online I find this mountain to be called "Mount Arab," however on here it is listed only as Arab Mountain. I supposed sometimes this happens as I encountered the same problem with Mount Baker a.k.a. Baker Mountain in Saranac Lake. This discrepancy however occurs even on the website for the Saranac Lake 6ers which states the mountain can be referred to as either one.
This was a nice, easy, short hike. The trail is very well maintained and we ran into a lot of other hikers.
There was a gentleman at the top manning the observer's cabin and had a mini museum set up inside and out. He was very nice and was a wealth of information about the fire towers. He had with him two New Foundland dogs with him.
We brought Sammy with us on this hike and he did great. There were several other dogs on this mountain today including the summit guys dogs. Sammy did pretty good with most of the other dogs...but he is still a work in progress.
The fire tower has been nicely restored and has a map inside similar to those that the observers used to use. The views were great today as the weather was crisp and clear.
Dan took Sammy so I could look in the mini museum for a few minutes. He kept hold of Sammy and walked him all the way down the mountain to the car. When we got to the car, Dan exclaimed that he didn't have his hiking stick. We realized that the last time he had it was at the top. He had taken Sammy and apparently not picked up his pole...so back up we went...
