Ascent Trip Report

This fire tower is currently in being rehabbed. It has had all new wooden stairs put it and the first few levels of the metal framework have been repainted. There were rolls of chicken wire at the base that will no doubt be installed around the stairs soon. There was a dirt road that accessed the top from Spruce Mountain Road near the trailhead. There was a utility truck and some more antennae / microwave stuff just off the summit. There was a cell antenna on the outside of the top of the tower and a large mechanical box inside the cab. I'm really glad to see this tower being restored as it was listed in the "Adirondack Fire Towers That May Not Last" section of my book "Views from on High."

We brought Sammy on this hike too! He did great once again! There were several other parties on the trail today as well. We hiked this after doing Kane Mountain, however I did not make it a multi trip ascent because we got in the car and drove to the second hike, so really they were separate hikes done on the same day.
