Ascent Trip Report

Over night sleeper train from Hanoi to Lao Cai then short bus journey to Sapa. Met by prearranged guide (sorry cannot recall name of company) then jeep to Tram Ton pass, very touristy. Straight into the hike, through beautiful secondary forest. Easy going but the weather was dry, suspect the trail could be pretty muddy with a bit of rain. About 2 hours in stopped at a small encampment were refreshments can be purchased, then on to high camp. Mostly rock steps and even guard rails on some sections. About 5 houts later arrive at a large well established camp, tents or bunkrooms available plus food if required, I had sandwiches! Fairly comfortable night, there were only three others there but no doubt it will on occasion be much busier.

Just over three hours to the summit. Half an hour there and then straight back down to Tram Ton and back to Lao Cai for overnight back to Hanoi.

Almost all of the climb was in cloud ditto the summit which is marked with a metal pyramid with name of peak and altitude. I did not see any sign of the bust of Bac Ho which marked the summit when I summited (via a different route) some years earlier.

Much construction activity on the summit and approaches as a cable car to the summit is being built.

The trail is well m and could be asily undertaken without a guide.
