Ascent Trip Report

State highpoint #4 of 5 on our trip to Colorado.

It was a perfect blue sky day so we left a little later because the threat of thunderstorms was very low. The road up to the south elbert trail head proved too difficult for the low riding Suburu Impreza. After scraping 3 times on the road we decided to park it and walk and extra mile. The trail was beautiful! We slowly hiked or was to the top and hit the Summit at 3:45! On the way down the sun set and it was getting increasingly dark. We used a smartphone as a flashlight for the last mile on where we hiked the road (dumb move not to bring a flashlight). Ended up getting to the car at 8:15. A very beautiful hike! Next up Kansas.
