Ascent Trip Report

There is a way trail to Lake Allen and a boot track above to the peak - more or less. The trick is refinding the trail after it disappears or you lose it. In general the trails follow the gpx track from the 100 peaks guide. Below Lake Allen the gpx route heads up a very steep nose. The trail seems to go right to gain a ridge, but then peters out and you need to back track left to regain the actual way trail track. Just below Lake Allen, route finding is difficult. Following the outlet stream gully to the right seems to work. Above Lake Allen the boot track is indistinct until you get close to the correct gully. The gully is marked with a rock cairn. However eventually the trail just follows the stream bed which would be problematic with water present. At this point there is a major game trail exiting right up out of the gully which gains the right hand ridge. From here one can continue up to eventually rejoin the boot track or the Westside trail. There are no technical difficulties, but route finding/keeping is a challenge. The trails to Lake Allen and above to the ridge are STEEP!!. Best conditions would be a cool, dry day, with dry stream beds, with good boot treads, trekking poles, and good knees for coming down. Clear weather would be nice as well.
