Ascent Trip Report

We started walking from the lower and official Hamilton Mountain Trailhead which is about 400ft elevation. I was with my pathfinder club and we decided that we would walk up the road to the alternate trailhead and start from there which looked a little shorter on the map that they have the official trailhead. At the top of the loop at the end of the road is a trail with a wooden sign with the different trails. You can get to Hamilton Mountain from here (3.4 miles) and Little Beacon Rock (.25 miles). Almost immediately the trail splits. Take the trail to the right. The trail is super easy to follow. You will come to a semi-open area with a set of 3 rock pillars right in front of you. That is not the true summit. Off to your right at the end of the trail is a small climbers trail heading up a hill. This is the trail to the true summit. Watch out for poison oak as it is on the sides of the trail but its easy to avoid. Great view of the George and Beacon Rock. Nice hike to come do after Beacon Rock if you need a bit more exercise!
