Ascent Trip ReportCamped overnight at Berry Patch TH. Departed Snowgrass Flats TH at 0500. Headlamps for until ~0730. Slow/Moderate pace since beginner group. Summitted at 1030. Well-signed and well-traveled trail all the way to the summit. Could be confusion at a couple junctures; refer to numerous trip reports all over web for clarification.
Encountered a couple dozen hikers on way up - encountered 100+ hikers of all ages, gear, dogs, horses, etc. on way down. EXTREMELY busy weekend destination. And for good reason: the sweeping alpine visits, towering guardian peaks, wide terrain and visual variety, interesting geology, gentle climb, etc. make this one of the single best "value" climbs I've ever done. Premier first-exposure climb for someone new to mountaineering, especially if combined with an overnight on the alpine meadows.
Scoped out surrounding peaks and will definitely be back for Hawkeye, Jackson, Ives, and Gilbert in the near future. The payoff is immense for the region.
