Up: 3.2 miles, 2,030’, 3:22 hr/min.
Round Trip: 6.4 miles, 2230’, 5:33 min.
Park at the May Lake Trailhead and walk to May Lake 1.4 miles with 464’ in elevation. Flush toilets in the backpacker’s campground with running drinking water. Cross along the southern edge of the lake and over the creek and work your way up the hikers path. No signs, but lots of “duck” to guide you up the trail. The last few few feet is a class 2. The peak has an antenna on top. Great views from the top.
Copied from the Yosemite Facebook posting: In the geographic center of the park sits the perfect pair: Mount Hoffmann and May Lake. The peak was named after cartographer and topographer Charles F. Hoffmann after he completed the first ascent in 1863. He then named the lake at the base of the peak after his fiancée, Lucy Mayotta Browne. The two have been together ever since.
