Ascent Trip Report

Learned a valuable lesson in not being a moron on this hike... was a spur of the moment thing, but that's no excuse for not bringing any food or water on an 85-degree day after, especially after not eating or drinking anything since the night before. Almost didn't make it up and actually did pass out on the counter at the Adirondak Loj at the base of the mountain for about 30 seconds.

Aside from that nonsense... it's a very well maintained trail going up, probably due to the massive number of people who climb this mountain. It's the highest mountain in NY state, and it's right next to arguably the biggest tourist town in the Adirondacks, Lake Placid. Being Labor Day weekend, the mountain was PACKED... I had to park almost a mile away from the trailhead there were so many people climbing Marcy and Algonquain today (they share a trailhead). It's pretty flat until the last mile or so when the trail sharply increases in grade just as you're getting to the alpine zone, providing an absolutely parched hiker with a torturous view of the 800-1000 vertical feet to go until you reach the summit, though I imagine the view is much more inviting to more intelligent humans that remembered to bring basic essentials.

Very warm day today, with almost no wind, even at the top of the mountain, above tree line.
