Ascent Trip ReportI chose to hike up the trail from the zoo. Its a decent amount of elevation gain in the heat, but I saw nobody, so that was nice. Once you get on the old traversing trail from Doi Suthep to the Hmong village on the shoulder to the north there is an absolutely amazing Fig tree that has hundreds of roots anchoring it and looks more like a small forest. Amazing. Even after travelling to Malaysia and Indonesia later in my life it is still the widest fig I have ever seen. After visiting the crowded Doi Suthep I traveresed on the old trail to the Hmong village which was interesting with lots of traditional dress. No tourists were there, but it was obvious that they are used to the occasional person like me wandering in. It was nice and I grabbed a bite to eat before hiking up Doi Pui and its pine shrouded forest top. Good views from the village and Doi Suthep. Not really from the peak of Doi Pui though its too wooded, but that is fine. I walked back towards Doi Suthep and once backon the main road was able to catch a ride in the backof a truck back to Chaing Mai.
