Ascent Trip ReportDid North & South Twin via Haystack Rd on a Thursday in September.
I really loved this hike and it ended up being much more beautiful that I imagined it would be. The trail in general was very easy - no real scrambles or difficult sections except for one small crack in the rocks on the trail in between the North & South peaks.
The first part of the day - up to North Twin and then the traverse to South was completely in low clouds and I had no views. However, once I began making my way to South Twin, the clouds began to open up. On the South peak, I ran into a dozen thru hikers and we sat around and ate lunch. At that point, the sun came out and I had insane views through scattered low clouds to Galehead, Garfield, the Franconia Ridge, the Bonds, Zealand, Guyot, and the Pemi Wilderness.
When I got back to North Twin the second time, the views were still there and on the side path from the summit were my best views of the day over to Garfield and Lafayette/Lincoln.
Also met a new friend on the way back and we hiked down together. This was one of my favorite hikes so far in all of the White's!
