Ascent Trip Report

Drove in to McMillan Spring Campground the previous day using the west side route. The road was in good shape from the Sandy Ranch junction but became steeper and rockier the last 2.5 miles to the campground (19 miles total). The next day I drove the remaining 5.1 miles to Bull Creek Pass and parked. High clearance and 4WD was helpful and I was glad for my 6-ply tires. I hiked the south ridge trail until it faded away higher, then followed the ridge to the summit of Mount Ellen. Continued north on the ridge to the summit of Mount Ellen Peak. Returned the same route.
