Ascent Trip ReportLong day loop of off trail tramping for this beautiful view. One of the best out of our stay in NZ as it looks up the Hawea lake and valley showing a multitude of colors as the river enters the lake. Good views of Aspiring and Brewster areas as well as Aweful, Alba, Pollux etc. We followed the south ride route up from the turn off from the high trail over Timaru river, great succulents on the summit plateau. Descended east towards Dingle Burn peak but turned south at the saddle. Easy going until the thorny trees barred the way and we had to descend into the beech and deadfall choked gulch. After 30 minutes of difficult terrain it eased to normal bushwacking and river crossing. It would help if someone slashed a path through those briars though. From there we actually still had energy and so took the high trail back west to the car rather than the cobbly river route even though the water was low. Great peak!
