Ascent Trip ReportTrailhead parking lot is not marked as Black Crater heading West on 242, just a TH sign. It's shorty after Windry Ridge - if you get to Dee Wright Observatory you've gone well too far.
Well-worn trail all the way to the summit. Protected hike 90% of the way with open lava fields and 10' walkup "scramble" at top. Glorious 360 views of the entire area.
Left trailhead at 1115. Arrived at summit at 1300 including a couple ~5min breaks. Stayed on summit for lunch and pictures for 30 minutes. Encountered about a dozen other day hikers on the trail.
Extreme wind at beginning of hike with 40mph+ gusts. Had died down to intermittent gusts by the time we reached the summit. High elevation clouds shrouded other summits but visibility was good ~9000' and lower.
