Ascent Trip ReportI had a multi-peak day ahead of me, so I did not care to wait until 10 AM for the road to open. From I-695 WB, use exit 6. Turn left (north) on Lewis Avenue for 0.5 miles. Turn left (west) onto Kensington Avenue for 0.5 miles. Turn right (north) onto MA-71/Chamberlain Hwy for 1.1 miles and bear left onto Butler St. After 0.2 miles turn left onto Park Drive, which used to be an access road into Hubbard Park and Hanging Hills, but which is now permanently gated to vehicles about another 1/2 mile in. You must park before a sign prohibiting parking beyond, or almost certainly be ticketed. From parking, I walked up the paved road 1/4 mile to the entrance gate (which is at the junction with the road coming north from Meriden). Then bear right, crossing the dam, for 1/2 mile to where Peak Drive (name changed at junction) turns hard left and starts going seriously uphill. Walk another 0.8 miles to the fork, where I stayed right for the last 0.4 miles to parking for the west summit at the communications towers. Continue another 1/10 miles on a good trail to the wide open, cliffy summit with spectacular views. Time up--45 minutes; down--40 minutes. This is probably the shortest and easiest off-hours road walk to the summits, and would work well for bikes, of which I saw several. I did not visit the eastern summit.
