Ascent Trip Report3-day backpacking trip with Shayne. Started at the Necklace Valley trailhead (#1062), hiked to the West Fork Foss Trail trailhead (#1064), then hiked up to Big Heart Lake and camped for the night. On day 2 we climbed up to Iron Cap mountain via the ridge from the west, then back down to Opal Lake (which isn't a lake anymore; more of a meadow). A very strenuous day; about 10 miles in nearly 12 hours, but a whole lot of elevation gain/loss, tons of boulders, and no trail to follow. We camped at Opal Lake and hiked out to the Necklace Valley trailhead (#1062) the next morning. |
