Ascent of Johnson Mountain on 2015-08-05Date: | Wednesday, August 5, 2015 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | Car | Peak: | Johnson Mountain | Location: | USA-Washington | Elevation: | 6721 ft / 2048 m |
Ascent Trip ReportClimbed 14 miles from camp to the summit on the "rest day" of a WTA trip. We started by going 3.5 miles, at first gradually and then more steeply up switchbacks to Dishpan Gap, then we traversed briefly before going on the Blue Lakes High Route (a very steep trail but in decent shape) up and over a ridge to Blue Lake. From there, it was a quick trail hike to the summit, where we stopped for some snacks and pictures before retracing our steps to the camp, where fortunately the non-hiking group had dinner ready for us. Overall, a nice hike (if a bit long), although the view was mostly obscured by increasingly ominous clouds (it started to rain that evening). |
