Ascent Trip ReportI used Bill Schuler's TR which still applies , this report attempts to add some information.
GRAHAM BENCHMARK .... open climb on ski runs .... 1.8 miles, 574' ascent, 1 hour RT.
We parked at the main lot in front of the Boyne Highlands Ski Resort.
I walked through the tunnel at the Sports Shop to the back of the building and climbed the ski runs westerly to the very top "MacGully Ski Station" .... a moderately steep climb of approx .75M.
The lift was open to the public and the attendant at the top, Ben (?), pointed the way (northwest) to the Graham Chapel (another 250 yards) with the Communication Tower to the west at a lower elevation, the Chapel sits on the HP.
Had a nice long chat with my name sake, from Indiana.
I found the BM "GRAHAM, 1956" embedded in concrete, 30 yards southwest of the Chapel, amid some trees. Great views throughout the hike. I descended in 11 minutes.
We moved on to Nubs Nob.
NUBS NOB .... steep ski run climb ... 1 mile, 394' ascent, 45 minutes RT.
From the Boyne Highlands Ski Resort we found our way to the Nubs Nob parking lot (no one around).
I climbed the very steep ski runs southeast .5 miles to the summit ..... the area has 5 Ski Stations and a Communication Tower (all different colors), its obvious that the area has been disturbed from the construction.
I chose the existing natural ground HP between the Green and Red Ski Station (45.46716,-84.90121). Great views in all direction.
I descended in 9 minutes.
EMMET COUNTY WAS FORMED IN 1840, AND AS OF THE 2010 CENSUS ITS POPULATION WAS 32,694. THE COUNTY SEAT PETOSKEY (meaning "where the light shines through the clouds", in the language of Odawa Indians) IS FAMOUS FOR A HIGH CONCENTRATION OF PETOSKEY STONES, THE STATE STONE OF MICHIGAN."
