Ascent Trip Report

Cycled in (~ 4 miles) from beginning of Archangel road to just before the split of the Snowbird Trail from the Reed Lakes Trail since Archangel was still closed for bridge construction. The road closure added over 2 miles to the approach and made the cached bike a welcome site for the return. Started about noon and reached the summit at 5:23 PM after some indecisiveness just as the low clouds parted sufficiently to see the Little Susitna valley below. The Bomber glacier side was largely occluded by low clouds. Followed the traditional left gully from upper Reed Lk to the summit, but did not require crampons or ice axe as the snowfield was greatly minimized (and did not include the gully) from the low snow year and the warm summer temps. Times are based on a fairly casual climb and descent that included visits with other hikers. An awesome peak with spectacular views!
