Red Hill Fire Tower
This is our 3rd fire tower today so we are starting a little later than normal – but maybe we can see a low sun which normally makes for better views. We came over from Overlook Mountain – drove through Peekamoose – wow I never saw so many people hang out in a river! But it is awfully hot today!
This tower is really off the beaten path – since we just came from Overlook – which was a zoo this afternoon and here there is just a tiny parking lot and we are the only ones in it!
This is a really short hike, but as we make our way to the tower we can hear thunder off in the distance and so we pick up the pace.
We reach the summit and it is perfectly peaceful up here. The tower is standing on a cleared area that looks like they mow the lawn up here. There are picnic tables and the caretaker’s cabin – although closed – looks to be in perfect shape. The views from the tower (cabin is locked) are great. Got some great pictures of the storm clouds headed our way.
5:35 pm Since we don’t want to get caught in the rain headed this way we are on our way back to the car which only takes us 35 minutes and we are back at the car at 6:10. This was a very nice hike – it would be a great place to watch a sunset. Certainly quiet here.
