Ascent Trip ReportWe left the visitor centre car park at 6h30 and started on the trail. On the way up, the temperature was pretty good (at least by Scotland standard). At one point, we hit the clouds and navigated with the cairns. There were some patches of snow. We reached the summit at 10h50. We were in the clouds with the mist whipping our faces. The wind was fierce and the temperature was cold. So we only stayed 15 minutes on the summit. Leaving the summit, we had to make sure we headed in the right direction and then turn at the big cairns. Once off the summit area, the trail is obvious. At about the same altitude (around 1000-1100 meters) as on the way up we broke through the cloud ceiling and had wonderful view again. A lady from the Netherlands fell about half way down and was evacuated by helicopter. We were back at the parking around 16h00.
The trail is never steep and easy to follow except in the snowy and rocky summit area. In the mist or fog, one should have a map and compass or a GPS, otherwise it might be risky to get off the summit.
