Ascent Trip ReportThis little nub is the only completely closed contour on the tour other than the HP tagged to the NW off of the Western Loop Trail. The trail system deliberately switch backs up to this "summit" teases you with a quick view of the Pine Log Mountain to the south. I was unhappy to see that mountain that turned me back earlier but appreciating that Bartow County had constructed for the public this really nice trail system to enjoy hiking in the same general area. The Eastern Loop takes you down to a quarry which provides an interesting little oasis in the middle of the woods with some large boulders and small pool of water loaded with sunfish. Big sunfish. I have never seen so many sunfish in tiny body of water before.
I finished the hike by taking the northern leg of the Eastern Loop and back to my car. In all, with the bushwhack to claim the county park HP and this small nub, the total hike was just under 5 miles and gave the legs 1000 feet of total gain to enjoy. With the nice open forest views and good hilly terrain, I will return to this little unknown jewel again some day!
