Ascent Trip ReportBeautiful hike up standard route. Parked (with a flat) just before the stream crossing. Early start meant very hard/icy snow crossings. Would have preferred to have an ice axe. We lost the route on the upper part of the ridge and chose to go right around an apparent column. This was a mistake - staying on the ridge (as we did on the descent) was very straightforward class 2+ scrambling with moderate exposure. Very loose descending the ridge to Conundrum but only on the upper part. Very short hike up Conundrum.
ON the return, we saw a guy glissading from the saddle with Conundrum toward the tarn. We took a look but the top 50' had melted out and the slope was very gravelly and steep and we went over the top of Castle the way we came. However, when we reached the snowfields at the base of the ridge, the snow was perfect for a glissade. I'd estimate nearly 1/2 mile in two large pieces. My GPS registered a maximum speed of 14 mph. Great fun.
