Ascent Trip ReportThis weekend, it was my plan to hike my first high peak by myself. I felt that it was a right of passage. I originally planned to hike Phelps and Tabletop but I wasn't paying attention to the trail head I was signing into and quickly found myself on the path towards the McIntyre range. I attempted this during the winter but I only bagged Algonquin, the heavy winds kept me from doing the other 2.
It was a gorgeous day so I decided to go for it. I first ascended Wright thinking I would probably skip it if I left it for last. What a great hike, it really was! At the junction was and ADK worker waiting for her colleagues so we chatted for a bit while I ate a power bar. She told me where to find the plane wreckage at the summit. At the summit, there were a group of young adults. I took a group photo for them and they took a photo of me. I than headed towards the wreckage and took a few pix. The view was amazing!!! It's a typical rocky Daks climb but nothing to bad.
Back at the junction again, I ran into a gentleman from Saratoga who was hiking and A & I. We ascended to Algonquin, again, typical rocky, steep Daks climb but nothing to bad. At the summit was a steward who we chatted with for a bit. It was windy and quite cool, my new friend stopped to eat but I continued on towards Iroquois.
Unfortunately, I found myself down Murder Mile, BIG mistake!!! My new friend had done the same, we were almost half down before we realized our mistake. We turned around and headed back up. That added an hour to the trip!!!! At the top we saw the herd path to I and proceeded. We stopped briefly on Boundary for a quick break but continued on. There are plenty of wooden walkways which was good because the trail was very muddy. The ascent was fairly easy with a little bit of a rock scramble to the peak. The view was amazing!!!!!
We enjoyed the view for a bit before heading back to A and our final descent. The wind died shortly after reaching tree line and the temps began to rise. Overall an awesome hike although I don't have any plans on going back to Murder Mile again!!!!!
