Ascent Trip Report

First 14er since 2012! Ugh, life gets in the way. Overall a good hike; the trail itself is nothing terribly interesting, and the loose rock was hard on the ankles, but great views from the top and good weather made it a worthwhile ascent. We left the truck parked near the radio towers on Mt. Princeton road at 8:15. Not surprisingly, there were quite a large number of people on the trail, so there was little chance for solitude. We lost the trail crossing the rock field on the lower flanks of Tigger Point, and actually ended up on the old trail by accident. Realizing this, we scrambled up the loose rock and scree, rejoining the main trail on Princeton's east ridge up from the Princeton-Tigger saddle. The three years since my last truly steep hike revealed themselves as I gassed my way up the ridgeline, breathing harder and moving slower than I thought I would. All in all, getting to the top in under 3 hours was acceptable, considering Aaron's dog kept chasing after pika, requiring us to stop while he fetched her. We hung out at the summit for a half hour, taking in the views, catching our breath, and eating lunch, as the crowds caught up with us. At 11:30 we headed down, back at the truck by 2. Note to self: these boots may have to be replaced, not sure my beat up toes can take the longer, tougher hikes planned for this year!
