Ascent of Cold Mountain on 2015-07-04
|Date:||Saturday, July 4, 2015|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Location:||USA-North Carolina|
| Elevation:||6030 ft / 1837 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis summit was part of a series of other summits on the same day. Due to delays at previous summits, we reached this summit late (11:11 pm), so other than the benchmark (engraved "COLD"), there was little to see. We were surprised to see several groups camping at the summit (great way to spend the 4th of July, I suppose). Despite the fact that this is not the highest mountain in the bunch that we chose to summit, it was probably the most physically demanding (though not overly so). The last few hundred yards, past the summit campsite, was quite overgrown. I'd hesitate to call it a bushwack, but it was a bit more work than we'd expected to get pass the tangle of vegetation. Over, it was a very fun summit and I'll probably do it again in the daytime.
