Ascent Trip Report

I used this address to get to the Saddleback Lodge:

976 Saddleback Mountain Rd Rangeley, ME 04970

Extra information can be found at:

I parked in the 2nd Saddleback Lodge parking lot and walked down to the main lodge. I walked out into the grassy area and found the trail leading up the ski slopes in the tall grass. I started up the mountain at 5:28am. After a short hike through some tall grass you come out on a road. Sugar and I took this road about a .25 mile up till the trail branched off the left side and we took a visible trail up the mountain. There are small cairns every now and then. It is all up (no rework or switchbacks) since it is a ski slope. About half way up you come to an area where they are making new ski trails and there is exposed soil and huge rocks shoved off the side of the tail into the woods.
I arrived at the very top of the ski area and the top most ski lifts at 6:15am. I then hiked up to the AT and passed a small pond on top. I arrived at the AT at 6:19am. It is a very short hike over to the peak. Sugar and I arrived at 6:25am. We took lots of pictures and then started the 1.7 mile hike over to The Horn. This is a very beautiful and scenic hike. Most of it is exposed and has outstanding views. I arrived on The Horn 7:21am. We took lots of pictures and could even see my car in the parking lot down at the lodge. We then backtracked back to the lodge arriving on top of saddleback (8:16am) and then to the lodge (9:03am). This hike was awesome with great views. I passed one hiker in-between Saddleback and The Horn. I passed about 10 hiking going up Saddleback on the ski slopes when I was coming down.
I then made my way over to Old Speck.
